T45 Steel
T45 Steel is stronger than the bicycle industry standard steel - Cromoly 4130.
It is the current replacement for the Reynolds 531 tube.
T45 tube is in fact an old aerospace grade of tube still used within the aerospace, defence and Motorsport industry.
The material is a British specification and is produced by a British owned company.
It has been involved in every British land speed record vehicle such as Bluebird, Thrust 1 and 2 right up to the latest Steam car land speed record car.
The material has full traceability from Elmdon metals (see links page) and is not any old material from china etc.
T45 is a high tensile Aerospace grade carbon manganese based material.
BS4T45 to BS4T100 Tube is an Aerospace grade material that is used through out the aerospace and Motor sports industry because of its high strength in both tensile and yield.
It is a carbon Manganese based material that does not require any pre nor post heat treatments unlike many other material used for space frames and cages.
BS4T45 to BS4T100 Tube offers a 700/900N/mm2 Tensile strength, 620N/mm2 Minimum Yield Strength and an elongation of 17% minimum. It is supplied with full certification.
BS4T45-BS4T100 has played a part in the manufacture of roll cages, space frames and high-impact protection points for many years
The following are the mechanical properties of BS4T45-BS4T100 Seamless Tube:
0.2% proof stress,
Minimum 620N/mm² = 40 ton Minimum
Ultimate Tensile Strength:
700-900N/mm² = 45/58 ton f/in²
Minimum 17% elongation – which will allow the tube to bend upon heavy impact instead of snapping
